It's getting hard to breathe : 33 weeks

Whew, the last few weeks here are sure to be full of changes with my body as Kyla continues to grow into her big ol' baby self. I've made it to almost the end of 33 weeks here, and soon, the final frontier of pregnancy will be upon us. Unbelievable.

Saturday night, I found myself hobbling around after getting Keifer to bed, after a busy day with family. I think Kyla has moved into a position near or on my sciatic nerve, which makes me VERY nervous. Keifer spent the final 2 weeks she was inside me right on that nerve, and it was absolutely miserable. Of course, I spent Saturday night fretting about the "what ifs" - and hoping and praying she moves, as I have too much to do at work before she gets here! I'm much better today, after lots of rest yesterday.

Between the air quality here (aka BAD) for allergy sufferers like me, and Kyla growing and smashing up into my rib cage, I'm finding it's getting very hard to breathe normally. CJ told me I was breathing VERY heavily the other night while sleeping; well, I find it hard to breathe through just my nose anymore. I wake up dry- mouthed and congested, and when I take drinks of water or juice, I find myself gasping when I'm done taking a drink, as if I was suffocating myself. Oye. Fun times.

I also had my very first Braxton Hicks yesterday AM when I woke up. Oh yes, I had forgotten what contractions feel like. Oh, did I remember. Keifer NEVER put me through obvious Braxton Hicks, but apparently that is different with her baby sissy!

And speaking of "baby sissy", Keifer told us this weekend that "I have baby sister right here" and lifted her shirt and pointed at her belly. So now "the baby" has changed to "baby sister" - she's getting there!

Babycenter.com tells me for 33 weeks:

This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance.) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.See what your baby looks like this week

Congrats on making it farther than I did! Good luck on the final stretch.

I cringed a little at the pineapple reference. Looking at the picture and reading what you've described, it almost sounds like you have a pineapple in there. Ouch! Here's hoping she shifts and you are as comfortable as possible these last long weeks.
